It's Only Been 15 Months

It's only been 15 months since my baby girl was born! I don't know why I haven't posted some shots I took of her when she was brand new. Here are a few of my favorites.

I got the chance to take some pictures of my Dad and Sally while I was down in Washington. The day was a little chilly, but the scenery and people were beautiful!

Since I've Been Gone

I have recently updated my blog and since I haven't been around for quite awhile, I hope you'll take a look around. Since I've been gone, I've learned more and more about photography, my style, and editing. Things are coming together for me and I hope to make this passion a much bigger part of my life. I went through some periods of doubt, thinking I would never be as good as so and so professional photographer, but I finally realized that it's not about comparing myself to others, but to do what I do and enjoy it!
So as I continue to learn and grow and come into my own, I'll keep on posting from sessions I've had, share things I'm learning and just enjoy photography!

Baby number 4

My sister in law Tanya has just had her 4th baby girl!! I am so excited for her and their family. I got a chance to go over and take some pictures of baby Taryn when she was just 3 days old. It was so fun and I feel like I got to try some new things. I want to learn more about newborn photography!

Trish and Allan in Grande Prairie

My mom and Allan came up to visit this week bringing with them tons of stuff for the baby and while they were here we thought it would be fun to take some pictures! They got here on Friday and the weather was so beautiful but we didn't have time to get out. And then Sunday came and we had such strong winds that most of the amazing leaves were blown right off the trees! Despite that, we went out on Tuesday and found some pretty great venues for photo oportunities. I think they turned out lovely.

I got the chance to hang out on a beautiful fall night with Nick and Sarah. They are wanting some pictures for their Christmas card, but I think we got tons of cute pictures for many occassions! It was lots of fun guys and you are too cute!

The Viel family and I got together today to get some fall photos in. It was a little drizzley outside, but we made it work and got some great shots!

A Few More Cakes

I have been making more and more cakes lately, which has been so much fun!! I love the different things I've been able to try, and getting better at the things I know already. My fondant is getting better and I feel like I'm finally learning how to do it so I don't give myself an ulcer.

Here is a cake that I made for my friend, Bridgette's birthday!

I wasn't exactly sure how to do the bow on top, but did learn a few things for next time. Like I should have made more loops! But I love how the rest turned out.

I made this cake for a triple bridal shower for girls at my work. There were three weddings this summer, so we had a joint shower for all of them.

And this last cake was for a 9 year old birthday party. She told her mom she wanted a Japanesse theme birthday cake!!

Four Sweet Boys

Geoff and Lexie went from a family with 3 boys to a family with 4. We got together to take some more family pictures and they turned out pretty great!

You are all beautiful and taking pictures of you is so fun. I love the finished product! I feel blessed to be a part of your family and lives!!

Uncle Larry and Auntie Chris

Scott and I had the chance to go down to Calgary for the long weekend. It was my first trip to Calgary and it was a perfect opportunity to visit Uncle Larry and Auntie Chris. They just moved an hour north of Calgary, so it was perfect. We had a wonderful time visiting and even had some time to take some pictures!! It was a beautiful day and their home provided a wonderful place for a photoshoot.

Anniversary Cake

I got a chance to make an anniversary cake for some amazing friends who have been married for 35 years. It was an honor to make the cake and I really like the way it turned out.

It was a beautiful night for taking some pictures and I got to spend it with Erin, her husband Ian and cute daughter Kinsley. Oh and we can't forget about baby boy on the way!!

Lexie and Her Family

My sister in law is getting ready to have baby #4. I was lucky enough to hang out with her and her family yesterday to get some family pics and some maternity pics. It wasn't hard to get good shots of this family. They are all adorable...parents included. *smile*

I love the pictures that we captured. The boys did such a great job smiling and looking cute! Can't wait to meet the 4th litte Geoff and Lexie!! Love you guys!

Wedding Cake

This last weekend was my first chance to make a wedding cake. Scott's brother was getting married and I was the one to make the cake. All in all it was a good experience, I learned some things about being more prepared more than one day before the big day!! I literally stayed up all night to finish the cake, but the more I look at pictures of it, the more I like it. So here it is.

I wasn't the one to put the flowers on the cake, which I think made it pop so nicely. But the rest was me. I feel like I'm learning lots about making cakes and I really enjoy the finished product!

Two Tiered Cake

This was my first two tiered cake and I must say it's not as scary as I thought it would be. I love how this one turned out!! It's for a 12 year old girl's birthday, it's so perfect for that!!

I'm trying to get the word out about my cakes, I'm thinking this could be a good side business. Or something I can do after I have our baby. I love the final products and with more practice it will all get easier. I have 3 more cakes to make in the next few months and I'm anxious to show you!

I am getting into making cakes these days. I took a cake decorating class at Michaels last year, and have since taken two more. It's fun to learn new things about cake decorating and then trying it out myself. So I'm adding my cakes to my photography blog, it falls under the creative type heading I think.

Here are the cakes that I've made so far.

We'll start at the beginning of my cake career.

My first cake from my class.

I made this cake for my parents in laws going away trip to Africa

This cake was made with left over colors from my previous cake class. I really love how it turned out though, the colors are so cute.

This was my final cake from my first cake class. We learned the rose.

I made this cake for the last super bowl, in case you couldn't tell.

The next class I took was a fondant class. This was my first try at fondant and buttercream. I didn't really have an occasion for this cake but I just wanted to practice.

I made these cupcakes so I could practice some of the new buttercream techniques that I learned

This is my most recent fondant cake for class, I really like this one.

I just finished this cake for a friend of mine's nephew. I've never done a theme cake before. I like most of this cake, but it's a little uneven. Ah well, practice makes perfect.

Sisters

I got another chance to have a photoshoot with Alyssa, Jordan and Abigail. It was so much fun to take newborn pictures of Abigail and now that she is 3 months, we thought it would be a good time to take some more!! These girls are very fun and I love them!

The older sisters were getting ready for the photoshoot by getting all squeaky clean in the bath!!

Curtis and Faith are Tying the Knot
